ALMA MATER, KELLY COLLEGE,

1946:  Norwood Preparatory School , Exeter, Devon.  Still keep in touch with friends from there  Coincidently, one of my  old "dorm" mates, lives a few blocks from one of my sisters, in Hamilton, Ontario..

1949:   Kelly College, Devon, England for three years, taking eight 'O' levels.  Then to a Technical college for 4 'A' levels-   Pure & Applied Maths, Physics & Chemistry.  Played a lot of Rugby and Cricket.

1954-59  Started National Service (drafted) in the Somerset Light Infantry.  Transfered to Royal Engineers, took Field (Combat) Engineer training and became an Electrician, mostly with power lines and Camp wiring.  Became "hooked" on Stage Lighting in Malaya, did a lighting plot for Royal Command Performance for The King of Malaya, the Yang-di-Pertuan-Agong.  Upgraded Combat Engineering skills, worked in a leper colony, hunted wild pig with the Gurkha in Kluang and found myself on patrol, lying face-down in the mud with a pair of unknown combat boots about six feet away.

1959-63   Posted to Germany.  Taught English at the Berlitz School and literacy to regimental soldiers.  Added Track  and Field hockey to sports and played Rugby at Army level.  Trialed at Bisley for Corps Rifle Team. (Couldn't get the "windage" right at 800 yds.!). 

1963-66    Enrolled at St. Luke's Teacher Training College, Exeter, England.  Came to Canada with a Teaching Training Certificate (TTC) in Maths and French, with distnction in teaching practice

1966-96    Taught mainly French, Drama, Music and Art in many rural areas as well as Special Ed, picking up a B. Ed (1973) and a Dip. Ed at the University of Saskatoon, by 1980.  Being an Teaching Assistant in University helped pay my tuition.  Eventually  I moved to Midale,  joined the  Weyburn Army Cadet Corps , played my last game of Rugby at fifty and retired from teaching in '96.

                  Now, I, am on the Executive of the Royal Canadian Legion, Estevan, as the Midale Branch closed due to the decline in membership, drive the 'Care' bus, am a board member of the SMILE Services, Estevan and the Souris Valley Antique Assoc. To make sure boredom doesn't set in , I play darts regularly,  took part in a Dinner Theatre for the Elks Community Theatre Group.  I have just joined the Midale Lions and agreed to be a resource person for the Saskatchewan Diabetes Association.
